9:30 am – 10:30 amIn a pandemic of misinformation – don’t trust your gut
The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how great the harms of misinformation and disinformation are on individuals and communities. This presentation will provide a debrief of the pandemic highlighting how data and evidence were used to guide decision-making in an environment that had rapidly changed and sometimes limited information available.

The presentation also will discuss the importance of risk communication with the public. What went well? What were the pitfalls? How can we effectively fight misinformation and what is the role of data in this fight?

A public servant’s quest across South America during COVID to realize his long-term plan for optimal mental health.

Micheal Harding details how he left his Manitoba civil service position early in the pandemic to chase after his decade-long dream for optimal mental health. His three-year quest took him across Brazil and into the jungles of the Peruvian Amazon, and in fact to the very edges of the universe and the mind itself. Join him as he shares his story of overcoming childhood trauma and four decades of mental illness to realize optimal mental health and a commitment to a life of public service.

*Trigger warning: This session includes a raw and honest story that touches on a variety of challenging and potentially triggering topics such as mental illness, generational trauma, and suicide.
