A privacy awareness message from your local chapter chair

With Privacy Awareness Week coming up May 10–14, this is an excellent opportunity for us to bring awareness to privacy as a discipline, uphold best practices, and remember the importance of protecting personal information.

A great place to start is reviewing and understanding your organization’s information policies and procedures, including collecting, using, and disclosing personal information. By taking an active interest in policy standards and legislation, we are better informed and equipped to encourage workplace compliance.

Be sure to visit the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of CanadaYukon Ombudsperson, and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia for further information and resources.

The BCYT chapter is an integral part of the HIM community, bringing continuing education, networking events and activities, professional development support, and communication services to CHIMA members in British Columbia and Yukon.

The focus points for our chapter are education, engagement, and excellence.

We seek to provide education and networking opportunities for health information professionals throughout British Columbia and Yukon by hosting workshops and events regularly throughout the year. Each committee member brings unique experiences, expertise, and local knowledge from their particular region.

Our chapter committee’s objective for 2021 is to encourage safe connection between professionals in health information and beyond. We look forward to hosting virtual events and growing our health information community.
