Leading Nova Scotia Health’s Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) team, Conor brings together Data Engineering, Machine Learning, and Software Engineering, to deliver cutting-edge services aimed to improve healthcare performance. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Bristol, England – with a thesis on the optimization of heparin dosage using Machine Learning technologies – he started his career as a Software Engineer within the UK’s Ministry of Defence, and Health Security Agency. During this time, the Covid-19 pandemic shifted his work towards supporting the prediction of outbreaks; where he realized the lack of harmony between statistical modelling and software service delivery, and what is now understood as MLOps practice, was lacking.

Eager to refine his acumen in healthcare digital innovation, he went on to enroll onto Dalhousie University’s Master of Digital Innovation program, with a certificate in Health Informatics – in which time, he joined Nova Scotia Health in 2022. The ED Wait Times Prediction Tool project was only in its infancy when he joined, and after developing a working proof of concept, the project has gone from strength to strength, launching publicly with ten ED sites in June 2023, and again within YourHealthNS in November. With a growing portfolio of projects in the MLOps team, Conor looks forward to the delivery of more services and the continuous improvement of existing services in 2024 and beyond.
