Description of Job:

The Site Manager of the Cancer Registry is responsible for supervising, managing, and leading the work and staff in the Registry Department. This includes the development, implementation and adherence to policies and procedures which ensure the cancer registry data meets or exceeds all requirements of standards setters, including, but not limited to: the Canadian Council of Cancer Registries, the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, and the International Association of Cancer Registries.

Job Duties:

  • Ensure consistent, accurate, and efficient coding and abstracting of clinical data is completed according to established coding/abstracting guidelines and standards
  • Interpret, verify, and code diseases and procedures and other medical information into the patient data system, cancer registry, and other research and statistical applications
  • Participate in the selection, evaluation, orientation and training of new staff
  • Lead performance evaluation and disciplinary discussions and terminate staff, as necessary
  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive training program for new staff
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive performance measurement program with benchmarks and standards for positions within Cancer Registry

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Health Information Management, Health information Technology, Health Information Science, or related field; B
  • achelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in oncology coding within a cancer registry 
  • Credentialed as a Certified Tumor Registrar – individuals who do not have this credential at the time of application may be given one year to obtain it
  • Supervisory experience is considered an asset
  • CHIM certification
