Description of Job:
The Chief Quality Officer is responsible for the overall planning, direction, and operations of quality, risk management, patient safety, accreditation, and regulatory activities for a healthcare institution. The position typically reports to the Chief Medical Officer. She/he works to provide the structure, resources, and activities for the organization to advance clinical quality and patient safety.
Job Duties:
- Apply knowledge and skills to identify and prioritize needs
- Provide relevant information to clinical and administrative leaders
- Monitor compliance with the organization’s quality and patient safety goals and provide recommendations for remediation should it be necessary
- Collaborate with the senior executive team, team leaders, and clinicians to select appropriate key performance indicators, targets, and benchmarks
- Provide direction to and coordination of quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management activities
- Develop infrastructure and resources to support data collection, reporting, and analysis
- Use expert knowledge to provide leadership guidance for accreditation and regulatory activities
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, Public Health, Health Policy, Business Administration, Health Administration, or related field
- Requires seven years’ related and progressive experience working with healthcare quality and risk management
- CHIM certification is an asset
