This professional practice brief (PPB) highlights the International Patient Summary (IPS), including background, development, and format using a clinical use case and applying health terminologies such as the SNOMED International Global Patient Set (GPS) and interoperability standards such as Health Level Seven Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (H7 FHIR©) to create an IPS mock-up. The completed IPS data element value sets, an IPS data model, and the development and extraction of an IPS from a clinical information system (CIS) are out-of-scope for this PPB.
