National Certification Exam (NCE)

The National Certification Examination assesses the entry-level competencies of graduates of accredited HIM programs. There is one level of certification examination in Canada.

Successful candidates receive a certificate of registration in the Canadian College of Health Information Management and are eligible to use the CHIM credential and the title ‘Certified HIM Professional.’

We are pleased to offer a revised approach to our exam which is outlined below.  To increase due diligence and exam control, exam results are now overseen directly by the CCHIM Registrar and two credentialed HIM professionals.

EXCITING CHANGES COMING IN 2019!

In an effort to provide increased flexibility to our exam candidates, CHIMA is excited to announce that we will be introducing online, live proctoring for our National Certification Examination starting in January 2019.

This new format will allow exam candidates to schedule their own exam times within a certain window provided by CHIMA (see exam dates below) throughout the year. This will eliminate the need for candidates to secure their own exam writing centres and invigilator.

Please ensure that you read the Exam Guide thoroughly for all new information and steps on how to register for the National Certification Examination.

If you have any questions, please contact Tasha Clipperton, Coordinator Member Services, at Tasha.Clipperton@echima.ca
