An interview exploring Ontario Health’s digital health information exchange, terminology standards, and digital health point of service requirements for procurements.

The purpose of the POS requirements document is to describe provincial electronic health record (EHR) connectivity requirements to be used by health care stakeholders in the procurement of point of service (POS) systems. POS systems meeting these requirements will be strategically positioned to integrate with key provincial EHR assets and support the province-wide exchange of clinical information.

Nicole Burford is the manager of quality, risk, and clinical administration at the SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health. She is an experienced health care leader who is knowledgeable in organizational transformation and maximizing the use of technology to optimize clinical outcomes. She has taught courses with Fleming College focused on data management and reporting.
Nicole received her bachelor’s of health science from the University of Ottawa, and is currently working towards her master’s of health administration at Ryerson University. Her professional development learning includes LEAN Agility’s green belt and she is an Ontario chapter committee member responsible for the education portfolio.

Carol Adam is a CHIM professional with over 30 years of experience in health care and consulting organizations. She is an insightful, thoughtful, visionary health leader who has a passion for working with teams that want to transform health care. Carol has a history of success at implementing and championing health information systems that improve the work of clinicians and their decision-making effectiveness to optimize patient care.
Carol has a project management certificate from Algonquin College and a teaching and training adults certificate from Georgian College.

Drew van Camp, manager of integration architecture at Ontario Health Digital Services, holds a master’s of applied science in industrial engineering and has over 30 years’ work experience in software development and architecture.
Drew started his career developing artificial intelligence software for supply chain and moved into the health care domain in the early 2000s. He currently leads a team of architects that are responsible for the provincial assets that manage identity and access to Ontario’s provincial EHR. Drew has worked on publications such as Ontario’s eHealth Blueprint and the Connectivity Strategy for eHealth in Ontario.

Janice has over 17 years’ experience as a certified health information management professional in progressive roles in acute care setting and with the Ontario government. Her expertise includes coding, health data analysis, health data integrity management, health informatics and information exchange as well as electronic records management. She is a certified subject matter expert in health/clinical terminology standards and their application.
Janice has been involved with several provincial and national standards committees, communities, and working groups to advance the use of health terminology standards for health information exchange in local and provincial electronic health records.

Sue is the director of eHealth Standards at Ontario Health. She is certified in health information management, terminology standards, and health informatics. She has over 34 years of experience across acute, primary, and veterinary health settings, and government organizations, focused on electronic health records, registration, information/data governance, data quality, analytics, and interoperability standards. Sue chairs the EHR Architecture and Standards-Business & Technical Committee for Ontario Health. She is the 2019 recipient of the CHIMA Pinnacle Awards for both the Tribute to Excellence Award and Volunteer of the Year Award, along with the 2010 Canada Health Infoway Standards Collaborative Peer Award.
