The Canadian College of Health Information Management (the College) has created a simulation to help candidates prepare effectively for the Certified Health Information Management (CHIM) National Certification Examination (NCE). This simulation is hosted by CHIMA, Canada’s Health Information Management Association, offers participants the opportunity to practice in a realistic testing environment, building their confidence and readiness for the CHIM NCE.

Practice exam format

There are 154 multiple choice questions in total, each question is displayed on a separate page.

The questions are based on the 7 practice areas:

1. Biomedical science
2. Health information science
3. Health information analysis
4. Information systems and technology
5. Access and security
6. Health care systems in Canada
7. Ethics and practice

Each question is displayed on a separate page. The timer is set to 210 minutes. When the timer runs out, the practice exam will automatically submit

Important note: The College’s CHIM NCE will not have the same questions as the practice examination.age. All 6 examinations must be completed to access and review the results of the exam.

This simulated examination includes:

• Practice questions based on the Learning Outcomes for Health Information Management* 
• 3 timed attempts
• Questions that are randomized and peer-reviewed by College-certified professionals
• Ability to return to previous questions before submission
• View results to learn about the correct answers

Important note: The College’s CHIM NCE will not have the same questions as the simulated examination.
