TYPES OF MEMBERSHIPS 


STUDENT MEMBERSHIP

A student membership is open to people that do not hold a professional designation with the Canadian College of Health Information Management.  
A student member is one of the following: 
A) Currently enrolled in a health information management or related program at an academic institution; or 
B) Entering the HIM profession through an advanced standing pathway.

A professional member is certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management and holds one or more professional designations.

They are able to connect with HIM colleagues, be informed of industry news, view new career opportunities, and receive exclusive offers.

RETIRED PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP

A retired professional member is retired and would like to remain connected to the Association and College. This person no longer wishes to hold their professional designation(s) or remain on the members in good standing list (MIGs).

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

When it is time to renew your membership, please review your personal contact information to ensure it is accurate.

Renewal periods 

  • Student members: due annually based on your anniversary date
  • Affiliate members: due annually based on your anniversary date
  • Professional (certified) members: due annually by the last day of February
  • Retired professional members: due annually by the last day of February 

Payment methods 

  • Interac debit card *preferred method – if offered by your bank or financial institution
  • Credit Cards (Visa or Mastercard) 
  • Certified cheque or money order 


Frequently asked questions 


1. Can CHIMA process a manual payment using an Interac debit or credit card? 

Only the cardholder, not CHIMA, can complete payment by Interac debit or credit card to ensure your privacy and security. 

2. If I am paying by Interac debit or credit card, what do I do? 

Please make your payment selection on the screen, review the amount to be processed to your card and enter your card information in the fields. Immediately upon approval from your financial institution, a receipt and membership card will be sent to your email address.

NOTES:

  • Do not hit the back button at any time 
  • If paying by Interac debit, please ensure it's from a personal and secure desktop computer. Avoid using public wifi, a mobile device, or work computers. 


3. If I am paying by cheque, what do I do? 

Select the “Cheque or Money Order” mode of payment; instructions on payment will be sent to your email address. You can print your order form and attach your Certified Cheque or Money Order for submission by mail to CHIMA. Your ID member number must be clearly marked on the cheque payment to ensure proper credit to your membership. Upon CHIMA receiving and processing this payment, a receipt and membership card will then be emailed to you for your records.
