Kelly AbramsKelly Abrams, Ph.D., CHIM

Kelly Abrams has been a certified HIM professional for over 30 years and is currently the Vice President of the Canadian College of Health Information Management. She has worked in various HIM roles across Canada including as HIM Program Coordinator at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology. Kelly has served as a member of the Expert Advisory Group to the Information Technology Council of Canada which resulted in a number of eHealth human resource publications, including the 2009 and 2014 Health Informatics and Health Information Management: Human resources report. Kelly has presented nationally and internationally on HIM topics and has published a number of articles, research papers, and textbook chapters. She is co-editor of the first and second editions of the Fundamentals of Health Information Management textbooks.

Kelly graduated with a diploma in Health Information Technology, she has an undergraduate degree in Health Administration, a Master’s degree in Public Administration (Public Policy), and a Ph.D. in Education (Adult Education and Human Resource Development). Her dissertation research focused on factors influencing leadership development in HIM professionals. Kelly lives in Regina, SK, with her husband, Murray, her two children, Liam and Ailesh, and her two cats, Mario and Little.
